Seattle Underground

On Friday morning, we went to see Seattle Underground. In the late 1800's, Seattle burned to the ground and the city decided to regrade (bring fill from the hills to create a gradual incline all the way to the ocean) the city. The business leaders didn't want to wait and rebuilt right away at the exsisting ground levels. The city then came in and raised the level of the streets anywhere from 8-35 feet. This caused the first floor to become the basement, and the second floor was now at street level. The last two pictures show us looking up at the skylights and then standing on them.
